If I can say from the outset , its not all about PR .
It must be said that whilst we thought 2023 was going to be a tough year for the market and the end consumer , I do not think many predicted the challenges that we would all face .
I believe that the intermediary market has worked tirelessly to ensure their clients have received the most appropriate deals , during a period where there have been some very trying and fastmoving product changes by lenders . This leads me onto my opening comment .
We have seen many column inches , podcasts and social media posts about product withdrawal notice periods and the level of product transfer procuration fees . On to my opening comment , you may have noticed that SimplyBiz Mortgages has not been vocal in the press about either of these two subjects . We have also seen criticism of the distributor community about this .
Having been Chairman of AMI for three years between 2018 – 20 and CEO of SimplyBiz Mortgages since 2012 , I have seen that , while PR may highlight the challenges we face , the actual debates about how they can be changed and improved always happen out of the spotlight of the media . I saw first-hand with AMI , how we worked with the regulator and other trade bodies to achieve solutions that in many situations never hit the press in the first place , but protected or benefited the intermediary .
I can assure you that SimplyBiz Mortgages is very much active within the lender community about the intrinsic value of the intermediary , how the correct remuneration needs to be recognised and how processes , such as product withdrawal , need to be reviewed and improved . These types of changes will not happen overnight , as they didn ’ t when as an industry we campaigned for more lenders to pay Product Transfer fees in the first instance , but that does not mean that we will stop campaigning . PR will always have its place in any campaign , but we will not jump in just for clicks , we will use the press when we feel it is a valid time to do so .

The team are working very hard to ensure we launch with more lenders that add value , increase the ancillary opportunities for you and keep producing the educational content that you need to stay ahead of the market . We do not take your support for granted ; we keep aiming to earn it .
