After the busy year that was 2025, we already know that we have a big year on the horizon in 2026.
With the movement of clients to 2 year fixed rates to ensure they weren’ t impacted heavily following rate increases, or those looking for stability and security during the pandemic with 5 year fixes, many of these deals will come to their end during 2026, which has made this a big cessation year and there is most definitely more work to be done and hopefully with that more opportunity to help manage their changing positions as the years have moved on.
Add into this a return to confidence, whether post-budget or not, of the more hesitant first time buyers and next stage movers and it’ s easy to see there will be many looking for your advice and support across all areas of the home finance spectrum.
Buy to Let continues to prove the nay-sayers wrong and, after a few difficult years, is back on its feet as it moves into a new regime and adapts to Renters’ Rights Bill requirements with an eye on EPC matters as we move a number closer to deadlines – which we appreciate might move.
The Later Life Market is responding somewhat similarly and is making a strong resurgence, now supported by FCA recommendations stating that advisers should make this area a defined part of their support for clients under a holistic advice approach.
Specialist / complex has also become much more of the norm as our daily affairs become ever more challenging and in recent times we’ ve seen more of the high street lenders opening their doors to scenarios we wouldn’ t have expected some years back.
To not be too gung-ho but it does feel very much like a corner has been turned in some areas of our industry, although doubtless there will be more challenges to come. However, as a highly resilient sector, we’ ve become masters of the ability to flex or to regroup to ensure the wider UK’ s consumers are supported with advice that enables them to secure the home that meets their next stage needs.
This edition covers many key areas, bringing food for thought from a variety of industry spokespeople, with something for everyone.
I hope you enjoy reading further.
